Acceptable Usage Policy

Last updated: April 2026

This policy governs your use of any WiFi network powered by Hotwireless. By connecting, you agree to abide by these rules.

You may not

  • Use the network for any illegal activity under South African law.
  • Transmit, distribute, or store material that is defamatory, discriminatory, or obscene, including content harmful to minors.
  • Infringe on copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights.
  • Run peer-to-peer file-sharing applications.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any network or system.
  • Distribute malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
  • Send unsolicited bulk email or perform other forms of spamming.
  • Use automated tools to consume disproportionate amounts of bandwidth.

Fair use

The network is shared. We enforce per-user bandwidth and session limits to ensure that all guests have a reasonable experience. Attempting to circumvent these limits will result in session termination.

Privacy and security

Public WiFi carries inherent risks. We strongly recommend that you use HTTPS websites, avoid transmitting sensitive information, and consider using a VPN for confidential work.

Monitoring and enforcement

We log connection metadata (device identifiers, session times, data volumes) for network management, security, and regulatory purposes. We do not inspect the content of your traffic. We reserve the right to terminate sessions that violate this policy or that materially compromise the network.

Liability

You use the network at your own risk. The venue and Hotwireless are not liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from your use of the network, including interruption of service, device compromise, or loss of data.
